Eravikulam National Park is located adjacent to the western ghats in the Idukki district of Kerala. It has spread over an area of 97 km2 . This national park has a elevation of about 2000 m. Anamudi, the highest peak in India, is inside this park. It is a home to 26 species of mammals including largest surviving population of Nilgiri Tahr, approximately 750 in number. 132 species of birds are found here including endemics like Black and Orange Flycatcher, Nilgiri Pipit, White Bellied shortwing, Nilgiri Verditer Flycatcher and Kerala Laughing thrush. 101 species of endemics butterflies also live here. Elephants visit occasionally here and 19 species of amphibians have been recorded in the park. The territory above 2000m is covered primarily by grasslands. Bases of the cliffs are filled with shrublands. The antibacterial Eupatorium glandulosum found here. Munnar is the nearest town just 13 km from the sanctuary. Munnar is well connectd by roads to Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
