Cochin is a sophisticated and commercially busy city of Kerala. It is also called as the financial capital of Kerala. It lies at sea level with a coastline of 48 km. Cochin is the biggest conglomeration in Kerala. It is divided into a number of well defined areas within the close proximity to each other. These numerous areas include mainland areas of Ernakulam city, Fort Kochi, Kumbalangi, Willingdon Island, Mattancherry and the dispersed islands. There is a past attached to these distinct areas. Before 600 years, Kochi merchants started trading in spices with the Arabs, Phoenicians, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch. These spices include blackpepper and cardamom. A queue of Chinese fishing nets situated on the mouth of the harbor that leads to the Arabian Sea in Fort Kochi, the Oldest area of the Cochin. It is a famous landmark of the Cochin. Ernakulam is among the best travelled places of Cochin. One can try skyscrapers and shopping in Ernakulam. Cochin is also a backwater destination in Kerala. There are numerous islands and the most popular island is Bolghatty. Locally it is called Mulavukad. Dutch established a palace here but afterwards it was used as house of British Resident Administrator. Now, it has transformed into a tourist hotel – the Bolghatty Palace. It is advisable to apply mosquito repellent cream while traveling at night and use mosquito net while sleeping as mosquitoes are a threat here.

How To Reach
By Air
There is Kochi International Airport situated in Nedumbassery, 29 km away from the city and Trivandrum International Airport located 220 km from Kochi. From Airport, one can take a taxi or train to reach at Cochin. It is approx. 5-6 hrs to reach at the city.
By Train
There are two main railway stations in Cochin. Ernakulam town and Ernakulam Juction railway station. Locally, these are called as North and South Railway Stations. You can also take a train from Trivandum, Coimbatore, Chennai, New Delhi, Kozhikode, Bangalore, Kolkata or Hyderabad to reach at Cochin.
By Bus
One can take Kerala Road Transportation (K.S.R.T.C.) which is available from all parts of Kerala. Number of private buses are also available from all districts of Kerala to reach at Cochin.
