Kovalam is located at a distance of 16 km from Thriuvanathapuram, the capital of Kerala. Kovalam has three curved beaches separated by rocks bulge out. Shallow water levels for hundreds of meters make it safe for swimming. Shops offereing all kinds of goods & services are lined at the beaches. Kovalam Beach consists of two main beaches, namely the Light House Beach and the Eve’s Beach, and other private beaches. Light House Beach is the largest among all beaches as there is 35 metre high lighthouse over Kurumkal hillock. The second largest beach is Hawah beach. The northern part of the beach is known as Samudra Beach. It is a quiet place less travelled by tourists.The beach sand is partly black as limenite and thorazite present in it. It just takes one hour to reach at the beach from Trivandrum. Vizhinjam Sea Port is famous for its special varieties of fish, old Hindu temples, big Churches and a mosque.
