Kovalam is a famous tourist destination in Kerala state of South India. It is situated 17 km from Thiruvanathapuram district of Kerala. Kovalam is very much popular for its picturesque beaches. There are three most famous beaches in Kovalam. First, Lighthouse Beach is located on the south of Kovalam. It is famous among tourists and outsiders. Many good hotels & lodges are available here for your comfortable stay and good restaurants and shops to enjoy the beach ambience while eating. Second, the curved beach on the north is a hangout zone on weekends and thronged with locals, tourists and travelers. Third is the Hawa beach. Hawa beach is one of the topless beaches of India. Lighthouse and Hawa beach both are well guarded by Tourism Department for tourist lives. So many shops are available selling quality goods. Generally all beach front shops are kashmiri stores. There are some shops behind the beach front shops selling goods at good rates. There are ATMs and post service is available at the Kovalam Junction which is just at 20-30 minutes walking distance from the main Kovalam beach.
How to Reach
From Trivandrum, it just takes 20 minutes from taxi to reach at the beach. Taxi charges around Rs. 400-500. You can also take an auto rickshaw available at Rs. 250-300.From Trivandrum-East Fort, there is bus service available to reach at Kovalam within ½ an hour. Charge is just Rs. 8. You can also choose tourist taxi. At Kovalam beach, 2 to 3 hour backwater trip can be arranged between Trivandrum and Kovalam.
