Malappuram is located in the north of the Kerala State in South India. Mala-puram word is originated from Malayalam language which means Hill Top. Malappuram district is divided into six taluks. These taluks are Ernad, Nilambur, Perinthalmanna, Tirur, Ponnani and Tirurangadi. This district is the municipality of Kerala state and serves as the administrative headquarters of Malappuram district. Malappuram is located 50 km southeast of Kozhikode and 90 km northwest of Palakkad on the Kozhikode(Calicut)-Chennai road (NH213).

By Air
There is an international airport at Karipur in Malappuram district. This international airport is just 25 km from the city. Kochi International Airport provides its direct from the Middle East, Singapore, Maldives and Sri Lanka. After reaching at Kochi International Airport, take a train or bus to Malappuram. You can also reach Chennai(Madras), Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi or other cities of India and then from there take a train to Malappuram.
By Train
Malappuram district is very well connected by rail network to all the major cities of India. These cities are Kozhikode, Magalore, Cohin, Thiruvanathapuram, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata. Angadipuram Railway Station is the nearest railway station located 17 km from the city and the other one is Tirur Railway Station located 25 km from the city. Only few trains stop at Tirur, Kuttipuram, Angadipuram and Nilambar stations and other trains usually stops at Kozhikode or Palakkad station, 50 km and 90 km respectively from the Malappuram city by road.
By Bus
There is bus service available from major cities like Kozhikode, Mangalore, Kochi, Bangalore, Thiruvanathapuram, Chennai, Mumbai, Coimbatore. Malappuram city has a KSRTC depot provides govt. bus services. A private bus terminal is also located on Ahmed Kurikkal Road Down Hill.
By Road
Malappuram city is very well connected by road to other cities such as Kochi, Kozhikode, Chennai, Bangalore, Coimbatore. KSRTC provides TT(town-to town) service from Kozhikode or Palakkad and one can choose this service for fast travel. NH-213(Coimbatore-Mangalore) links the city to other cities in India. NH-17 passes through Changuvetty in Malappuram, just 13 km from Malappuram city.
