Thiruvanathapuram is the capital of the state Kerala in South India. It is located near the southern tip of mainland India. Thiruvanathapuram district is among the 14 districts of Kerala. The mean maximum temperature is 34oC and mean minimum temperature is 24 oC. Humidity level is quite high and it rises to about 90% in the monsoon season. It is the first city in the way of the southwest monsoon and first showers reach here in the first week of June. In winter season, the temperature comes down to 18 oC and the temperature rises to 35 oC in the summer season. It is advisable to visit in the month of October to January. It is perfect to visit Thiruvanathapuram during the month of October to January. The summer season is usually hot and humid from the month of February to May. The Monsoon stays here from June to September. This monsoon brings heavy rain. In the month of October and November, the North-East monsoon brings showers of rain here. Its really nice to visit the carnival atmosphere during the Onam festival at the end of August or the starting of September. This cultural celebration officially lasts for 10 days. Malayalam is the local language of Thiruvanathapuram. It is Dravidian language such as Tamil and Kannada. Literacy rate is quite high here and generally local people are used of speaking Hindi and English both. Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple devoted to the deity of Vishnu in an exceptional reclining posture. This temple is located 65 km from Trivandrum city and is in the Kaniyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. Architecture of Padmanabhapuram Palace is made of wood.

By Air
Nearest airport is the Trivandrum International Airport serving direct flights from Middle East, Singapore, Maldives, Sri Lanka. This airport also serves seasonal flights to Europe. Most of the major cities are linked with this airport by domestic flights. Another airport is Kochi International Airport located 270 km from Thiruvanathapuram. After reaching at the airport, take a train or bus to reach Thiruvanathapuram. Thiruvanathapuram is 4-5 hours drive away from Kochi International Airport. Or you can reach Kozhikode, Chennai, Bangalore, Bombay, New Delhi, Kolkata and from there, you can take a train to reach Thiruvanathapuram.
By Train
There is a central railway station located at Thampanoor, just 8 km from the airport. Thiruvanathapuram is very well connected by railway to most of the major cities in India. It is the first city along the second longest train route in the world, Kanyakumari to Jammu.
By Bus
The bus station is located just next to the railway station in Thiruvanathapuram. Bus service is very well connected to all major towns and villages with big towns like Cochin, Bangalore, Kozhikode, Cannanore and Chennai. City bus stand is located 1 km from East Fort near the Padmanabha Swamy Temple. Some city bus depots are situated at Peroorkada, Vikas Bhavan, Pappanamcode, Kaniyapuram and Vellanad.

Thiruvananthapuram is very well connectd by roads to the cities like Kochi(230km), Kozhikode(420 km), Chennai(780 km), Bangalore(791 km), Coimbatore(400 km).
